These gorgeously comfortable and luxurious Moroccan hand knotted Beni Ouarain rugs are made by mountain tribespeople in Morocco using long stapled, mostly undyed hand-spun, wool from their own flocks. Sheep raised in mountainous areas usually have superb oily wool to protect them from the elements and it this natural lanolin which gives it the softness and the ability to take wear well on the floor. I always recommend that my customers use leather soled indoor slippers or bare feet with any rug but particularly with these. They utilise traditional abstract designs with a very contemporary aesthetic and are one of the most genuine and sustainable rugs available today. They are always hand knotted and, although not a small fine weave, are nice and chunky and therefore lie flat on most surfaces without the need for underlay. Moroccan wool rugs like these are particularly luxurious under bare feet in a bedroom or informal sitting room/snug. The sparseness of design and the minimalist colours make them a subtle addition to a heavily patterned or richly coloured space. However, more attention needs to be paid to spills because of this but they clean very well and can be restored if need be. The cost is low compared with many other options and they are generally superior to the Indian copies.
Available in sizes from around 6’x4′, 8’x5′, 8’x10′ and 12’x9′. Custom sizes can be ordered at an increased cost.
