ghzx`AHandmade wool Hosseinabad runners are the best value in today’s market. Yet another weaving village in the Hamadan area of NW Iran, these spectacularly long runners, as well as the many rug sizes, are made with a soft lustrous wool pile on a cotton base. They use the ‘Herati’ motif in repeating rows to make a mass of colour and design that is somehow not overwhelming. The usual colours are red, blue, cream and greens which often have a beautiful depth and combined with the soft wool imparts a feeling of luxury far beyond their price point. Underfoot as well as visually they are warm rugs and are fantastic value for money, much more so than any other rug on the market. However, they should be used with a good non-slip underlay as they are not rigid rugs and can ruck up and bend out of a straight line. Handmade wool Hosseinabad rugs and runners can be easily cleaned and the initially bright colours mellow with age. They are not the hardest wearing of rugs but this is reflected in the price. Expect to replace every 20-30 years if used in a busy area.
Hosseinabad rugs and runners are made in a large variety of sizes but not the oversize grouping.
This example is exactly what you expect from a hand knotted wool Persian Hosseinabad runner. Rich warm colours and an allover herati pattern on a handspun long-stapled wool.
