Taznak kilims are hand woven mixed technique – the rug is both flat and has raised pile detailing – all wool flatweaves from Morocco. Kilims are handmade across the rug-weaving world and are quickly artisan produced by creating the design using the widthwise weft threads as the design. Therefore, there is no labour intensive and time-consuming hand knotting, but this means kilims are not to be used as hard-wearing floor coverings. They do have a multitude of uses, including bedspreads, wall hangings, tablecloths and loosely covering furniture. They are a very bright, cheerful and cost-effective way to acquire a handmade floorcovering for a reasonable price. Always use on the floor with a suitable underlay which helps stop them creeping and protects them from being crushed against a hard surface. Due to the lack of pile they are also prone to showing dirt relatively quickly so keep on top of the cleaning regime- have them expertly cleaned every three years.
Handmade wool kilims are available in many sizes, including runners, but only the Afghan Maimana are produced in large sizes. ie. 12’x9’/3.66×2.74 and above.
This bright interesting Moroccan handmade wool Taznak kilim will bring sunshine into any space at a very reasonable price.
