Most of my overdyed Persian handmade wool rugs are vintage pieces from the weaving centre of Kerman in central Iran. They are a fairly new concept- along with patchwork rugs they are a clever way to recycle vintage handmade Persian rugs with some wear.
The inventor of this great idea decided to simply dip them in either a single colour or add multiple dyes to various areas to produce a funky transitional crossover rug. They are highly original one-off rugs made to give the buyer traditional rug designs and motifs but with added zest. They cross over into traditional and transitional categories too and look unusual and rare in any age of the home. Fantastic!
This example of a vintage handmade Persian Kerman rug shows the delicate floral motifs and excellent medallion design that is typical of this particlay weaving area. The colours are highly useable in today’s desire for fewer colours.
NB. These are vintage rugs and have either a very low pile or areas of wear. They should always be used with a suitable underlay and never in rooms with a lot of activity. Never wet clean – dry clean only.
