Persian Kordi rugs are from the Quchan area in Khorassan Province of NE Iran – so have the long stapled, silky wool which Kurdish weavers are renowned for. Unlike their cousins in the NW of Iran these Kurdish weavers, forcibly transplanted centuries ago, use the Turcoman influenced geometric designs of repeating motifs. These are tribal shields or guls (u with two dots over it). They use the Turcoman/Afghan colour palette of lighter reds, cream with blues and black which are harmonious and visually very warm. Vintage Kordi handmade wool rugs are valued by collectors so examples in good condition are relatively expensive.
Available in many sizes but not larger oversize rugs.
This fantastic vintage example in a gallery size of a Persian handmade wool Kordi rug (made in a ratio of c. 3:1) has the typical soft colours and geometric design that has the hallmark of an artisan product. The design is not regular enough to be machine made!
