Blue Moroccan Berber Rug

These gorgeously comfortable and luxurious Moroccan hand knotted Beni Ouarain rugs are made by Berber tribespeople in the Atlas mountains. They use long stapled, mostly undyed hand-spun, wool from their own flocks. Sheep raised in mountainous areas usually have superb oily wool to protect them from the elements and it this natural lanolin which gives it the softness and the ability to take wear well on the floor. I always recommend that my customers use leather soled indoor slippers or bare feet with any rug but particularly with these.

These rugs utilise traditional abstract designs with a very contemporary aesthetic and are one of the most genuine and sustainable rugs available today. Berber rugs are always hand knotted and, although not a small fine weave, are nice and chunky and therefore lie flat on most surfaces without the need for underlay. Moroccan Berber handmade wool rugs like these are particularly luxurious under bare feet in a bedroom or informal sitting room/snug. The sparseness of design and the minimalist colours make them a subtle addition to a heavily patterned or richly coloured space. However, more attention needs to be paid to spills because of this but they clean very well and be restored if need be.

The cost is low compared with many other options and they are generally superior to the Indian copies. Available in sizes from around  6’x4’/1.83×1.22; 8’x5’/2.44×1.52 ; 8’x10’/2.44×3.05′ ; 12’x9’/3.66×2.74. Custom sizes can be ordered at an increased cost.

This lovely pale blue abstract lattice design Moroccan Berber handmade wool rug is perfect to add a touch of subtle chaos to a well-ordered room.

Please use your rug with a suitable underlay which will protect the back of the knots and allow dirt to fall through the rug. Vacuum sparingly, once a week is sufficient, and do so on a low power and without the rotating brush, as this strips the pile. Clean professionally at least once every five years. Turn your rug every year if possible to even out footfall patterns and sun fading. Never leave your rug undisturbed under furniture in the dark. Keep a moth trap in the room if possible.
Every rug I sell is exactly as I have described on the invoice. I will have explained all the options open to you- including the bespoke rug making. The rug will be the very best rug you can buy within your budget and be the best suited to your room colours, light and usage. The way it is made, the materials, the age, the size and the all-round suitability for you and your room will be made completely transparent. Please feel free to ask for a second opinion if you are unsure.
